“Minor sports is a great way to get involved in the community,” says Andy Bader, publisher and editor of the Mitchell Advocate.
The Advocate has been Mitchell and area’s community news source since 1860. The newspaper has also been an MMS sponsor since 2000 when they first sponsored a house league hockey team.
“A spot was open one year so we took it and have held it ever since,” said Bader.
Bader’s three children have been involved with MMS hockey, ringette and fastball. He counts the thrill of coaching and supporting them as a treasured personal memory of MMS, while professionally he is proud of the All-Ontario hockey championships which have been won over the years.
The Advocate’s staff of five all live in West Perth, and they produce a newspaper every week which focuses on the people and places of the community they live in. Their commitment to their community includes Mitchell Minor Sports, said Bader.
“As the newspaper of record, we are all about community! The two go hand in hand.”
